My Story

Leading successful people to find their significance & then pursue that with their whole being is what I’m all about.

Individuals and companies come to me when they recognize they can be more and do more and need insight into how to leverage existing assets, embrace new mindsets, pursue innovative opportunities, and nurture significance.

I am able to help because...

I have a 25-year background in professional environments, including consulting in manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and finance. I led technology teams in a major financial institution through two acquisitions. I helped to build and sell a startup that served the law enforcement industry and is still in business.

I’ve was in the venture capital and startup funding world coaching entrepreneurs and helping them to Pitch with Purpose to raise funds to fuel growth for the better part of a decade.

I've hired, encouraged, guided, and fired.

I’ve formed, built and led teams. I've helped managers introduce new systems, processes, and efficiencies. I’ve worked alongside leaders of global corporations and principals of small companies. I've mentored the visionaries of those just getting started.

I've been hired, trained, mentored, transitioned, upsized,

rightsized, let go, and promoted.

I haven’t seen it all, but I’ve seen enough to know I can leverage what I’ve experienced and learned to improve our world.

I've cultivated meaningful relationships along the way.

At each point in my career, I’ve learned and grown. I've embraced innovation, fought for my teams, stood up for what is right, celebrated & praised when things went well and assumed responsibility when things got difficult. Each step has prepared me for future steps.

I'm learning and growing more today than ever before.

I have a unique perspective on what success means and the nature of significance. I can help you, and your company identify your significance and pursue it like your life and legacy depends on it.

Because it does.

A Few Things You'll Want To Know

There's so much more to each of us than our professional bio or LinkedIn profile. Here's a glimpse into who I am.

  • At a Columbus Crew soccer game

  • My 1973 Mercury Cougar XR7

  • Exploring Colorado High Country

I married my college sweetheart over 30 years ago. Kim is a great mom, intelligent and caring, and highly successful in her career. She is many things I am not, such as detail oriented and organized.

We have three kids. Our oldest son graduated from college this year with a degree in Neuroscience. He's investing the next year working for City Year in Denver, Colorado. Our second son is a Sophomore in college and is on the track team. Our daughter is in middle school.

We have more dogs and cats than I care to count.

We relish vacations every summer with our extended family, including Kim’s parents. 23 of us enjoy the week as one big family in a giant beach house. No one has been killed yet. We’ve done something right because the oldest kids talk about doing this same thing with their families.

I’m a native Kentuckian, and I speak Southern fluently.

I'm a serious UK Basketball fan. I regularly attended games from when Coach Rupp led the team through my college years.

I'm a graduate of Denison University, The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, and the Washington Campus.

Fun facts

I can remember back to when I was two years old and forward. I have hundreds of memories of people, places, pets, conversations, and things that were happening around me. Ask me about the "Slinky Incident," looking for Santa on the roof, and visiting my neighbors buck-naked - each of which happened while I was two and three years old.

I've shaken hands with Muhammad Ali, casuallly chatted with Walter Mathau before a day of filming for the movie Grumpier Old Men, and eaten dinner with astronaut Alan Shepard, who golfed on the moon.

I've taken my boys on the walk-down tour of the Washington Monument, and we later watched Marine One land to pick up President Bush while we visited the White House's Green Room.

I am a proud INTP on the Meyers-Briggs test. Most people when they first meet me believe I’m an extrovert, but I’m an introvert at heart. I’m a total N and total P, whereas Kim is a strong S and J. She completes me but isn't so sure I complete her.

If you’re familiar with Strengths Finder, my top five strengths are:

• Maximizer • Relator • Activator • Ideation • Strategic •

I have played electric bass since I was 15. I taught myself to play upright bass several years ago and now play with the Denison University Bluegrass Ensemble.

I'm a published author and currently working on my next book, Pitch with Purpose.
